PV Sindhu, a famous player of badminton who has been successful in the Olympics two times, didn’t win in the Australia Open competition. She played in the quarterfinals of the women’s singles against the 12th best player globally, Beiwen Zhang.
Sindhu’s recent form hasn’t been great, and early losses in recent events pushed her global ranking to 17th. In this specific game, she didn’t play her top-notch and lost to Zhang with a score of 12-21, 17-21. The entire match lasted for about 39 minutes.
In the last ten times they played against each other, Sindhu managed to win six times against Zhang. However, on this day, Zhang, who is originally from China but now represents the USA, played exceptionally well and controlled the game better.
Prior to this game, Sindhu had emerged victorious in the previous rounds against two fellow Indian players, namely Ashmita Chaliha and Aakarshi Kashyap. Her defeat in the quarterfinals was disappointing for her, especially since she was hoping to reach the semifinals for the fourth time this season.
Sindhu is getting ready for the World Championships happening in Copenhagen, Denmark, from August 21 to 27. These championships are really important in the world of badminton.
After getting better from an injury, Sindhu hasn’t been doing as well as she used to. This year, she joined in 12 BWF World Tour events but didn’t do very good and left early in seven of them.
At the start of this year, Sindhu got a new coach. Now she’s being trained by Muhammad Hafiz Hashim, who used to be a champion in the All England tournament.
There are some more Indian players in the tournament too. HS Prannoy is going to play against Anthony Ginting from Indonesia, who is the top player. Also, Kidambi Srikanth, who got a silver medal in the 2021 World Championships, will be playing against another Indian player, Priyanshu Rajawat, later in the day.
