The Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar, often called IITGN, is getting ready to organize the highly-awaited Inter IIT Sports Meet in 2023. This exciting event will bring together athletes from various IITs across India. The mascot for this event, named “Neelswara,” was unveiled by the esteemed Bhavina Patel, a remarkable Para Table Tennis Champion, renowned Arjuna Awardee, and celebrated winner of medals at both the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics and the 2022 Commonwealth Games. Neelswara is like a mascot for Gandhinagar, and it’s actually a blue bull, or nilgai, which you might have seen around here quite often. We introduced Neelswara during a special event that happened at the same time as our Board Meeting. This event lined up with some big sports competitions and a staff gathering at IITGN, all taking place on August 5-6, 2023.

Inspiring Stories and Key Dates

Ms. Bhavina Patel told us some fascinating stories from her life. She talked about how important meditation is and praised how all IITs support sports enthusiastically.

Here are some important dates to remember for the upcoming Inter IIT events:

1. Inter IIT Aquatics Meet: October 4 to 9
2. Inter IIT Staff Meet: December 24 to 19
3. Inter IIT Sports Meet: December 10 to 22

Joint Efforts and Impressive Facilities*

IIT Gandhinagar (IITGN) will be responsible for arranging the Inter IIT Aquatics Meet and the Inter IIT Staff Meet. Meanwhile, the Inter IIT Sports Meet will be put together by both IIT Gandhinagar and IIT Bombay.

More than 4,000 athletes from all 23 IITs will be taking part in 13 different sports, all aiming to win the highly sought-after General Championship Trophy.

Dedicated Leadership and a Bright Vision

The Board Meeting had folks from all 23 IITs. Professors Sivapriya Kirubakaran from IITGN and Avinash Bhardwaj from IIT Bombay, who are in charge of the 2023 Inter-IIT Sports Meet, kicked off the event. Professor Abhijit Mishra, the Sports Head at IITGN and the Meet’s organizer, gave the first speech.

Moreover, Professor Rajat Moona, the Director of IITGN and the head honcho of the Inter IIT Sports Board, shared his excitement, saying, “We’re really excited to host this big sports event that brings students from all over the country to celebrate sports excellence. At IITGN, sports isn’t just a side thing; it’s a crucial part of our all-around learning. Seeing this special yearly sports event on our campus will make great memories for everyone at IITGN.”

Professor Abhijit Mishra, IITGN’s Head of Sports, stated, “Hosting the 2023 Inter IIT Sports Meet makes us proud. “This tradition started way back in 1961.” The way everyone shows good sportsmanship and friendship during this long-lasting academic event is really amazing. We’re excited to continue this legacy and offer the participants an exceptional sports experience.”

IITGN has advanced Sports Complex with indoor/outdoor facilities: Badminton, Squash, Basketball, Swimming, Gym, more. Diverse options for sports and activities. These places help students and local residents get better at sports and enjoy them. They really focus on keeping fit and healthy.
