This remarkable feat surpassed the platform’s previous record of 5.3 crore concurrent viewers during the India-New Zealand semi-final match, demonstrating the immense popularity of cricket in India and the power of Disney+Hotstar as a leading sports streaming platform.
The unwavering support of Indian cricket fans has been instrumental in propelling Disney+Hotstar to new heights in live sports streaming, as noted by Sajith Sivanandan, Head of Disney+Hotstar India. This dedication was evident throughout the tournament, with the platform recording impressive peak concurrency figures for matches involving India. Notably, the India-New Zealand match and the India-South Africa match both attracted 4.3 crore and 4.4 crore concurrent viewers, respectively, while the India-Pakistan league match garnered a peak concurrency of 3.5 crore.
In addition to the digital realm, the India-Australia final match also drew a sizeable crowd to cinemas, with leading multiplex operator PVR INOX screening the match live in over 150 cinemas across major metros, Tier-1, 2, and 3 cities. Over 70,000 cricket fans eagerly gathered to watch the match, translating to over 70% occupancy, as highlighted by Sanjeev Kumar Bijli, Executive Director of PVR INOX Ltd.
