Punjab has taken a significant step towards a greener future with the initiation of a ₹140 crore Compressed Bio-Gas (CBG) project in Hoshiarpur district. This project is expected to be operational by December 2023 and will produce over 20 tons of CBG per day.
CBG is a renewable fuel produced from the anaerobic digestion of organic matter, such as agricultural waste, industrial waste, and municipal solid waste. It is a clean and green fuel that can be used to power vehicles, generate electricity, and heat homes and businesses.
The Hoshiarpur CBG project will consume around 49,350 MT of agricultural residue, industrial/municipal waste, and press mud annually. It will also produce 91 tons of bio-manure per day as a bi-product.
This project is expected to have a number of benefits for Punjab, including:
- Reduced air pollution: CBG is a clean fuel that burns with fewer emissions than fossil fuels. This will help to reduce air pollution levels in Punjab, which is a major problem in the state.
- Improved waste management: The Hoshiarpur CBG project will help to reduce the amount of agricultural and industrial waste that is dumped in landfills. This will improve waste management practices in Punjab and protect the environment.
- Increased energy security: CBG is a renewable fuel that can help to reduce Punjab’s dependence on imported fossil fuels. This will increase the state’s energy security and make it more resilient to energy price shocks.
- Job creation: The Hoshiarpur CBG project is expected to create around 200 jobs directly or indirectly. This will boost the local economy and generate employment opportunities for people in the Hoshiarpur district.
Overall, the initiation of the ₹140 crore CBG project in Hoshiarpur district is a positive development for Punjab. It is a step in the right direction towards a greener and more sustainable future for the state.
