Introducing the ‘Namo Bharat’ Trains for the New Regional Express Rail Network
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the new ‘Namo Bharat’ trains in India on Friday, part of the Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS). These trains will be part of a high-speed, high-frequency rail network connecting NCR cities and towns.
The RRTS network’s initial part, which spans 17 kilometers from Sahibabad to Duhai Depot, will soon open to the public. Electric trains will run on this segment, with a design speed of 180 km/hr and an operational speed of 160 km/hr, and it will feature five stations.
Once fully operational, the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS is expected to remove over one lakh private vehicles from the road. It is also anticipated to cut approximately 2,50,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide in vehicular emissions annually. The RRTS stations will seamlessly blend with existing public transport modes, simplifying commuters’ shifts between different travel modes.
The Namo Bharat trains are a significant step forward for India’s transportation infrastructure. They will provide commuters with a fast, efficient, and environmentally friendly way to travel between cities and towns in the NCR. The trains will also help to reduce traffic congestion and air pollution in the region.
In addition to the environmental benefits, the Namo Bharat trains are also expected to have a positive impact on the economy of the NCR. The trains will make it easier for people to travel to work and school, and they will also boost tourism and business development in the region.
