Great news! The government recently greenlit a fantastic initiative known as the IT hardware PLI scheme for 27 companies. This program, with a whopping budget of Rs 17,000 crore, is designed to ramp up the manufacturing of essential tech gear such as computers, servers, laptops, and tablets.
Ashwini Vaishnaw, the government’s tech and IT minister, shared that among these 27 companies, 23 are fully ready to begin producing these gadgets right away. They’re expected to invest a total of Rs 3,000 crore.
Why is this happening? Well, lots of companies rely heavily on China to make these devices or their parts. The government wants to change that by either making these companies produce their stuff here in India or find other trusted places to get their materials from, beyond China.
The companies chosen for this program are a mix of big Indian names and global IT giants. They’re the ones you’ve probably heard of before.
